On 15 April 1961, the first production P-3A Orion was flown for the first time from the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation plant at Burbank, California. This shot shows the aircraft (Bureau Number 148883) during its christening ceremonies prior to the flight. The aircraft, which was redesignated NP-3D in 1994, spent most of its career as a flight test asset.
